Terra Branta Canadensis

Terra Branta Canadensis – “The Land of the Canada Goose” – is one of my more experimental pieces. The original assignment was to find and record real-life sounds, and then render them using only instruments in the traditional symphony orchestra. Naturally, I picked the most annoying sounds I could find – goose honks, car horns, lawn mowers, and the like – and then cobbled them together in a pseudo-narrative describing a day in the life of a Canada Goose. This piece leans really hard into the comedic nature of this goofy fowl while retaining at least a semblance of seriousness; after all, a goose is funny and entertaining right up until the moment it decides to attack you…

I hope you enjoy this piece!
